Conshohocken, PA – June 26, 2024 – FC DELCO’s ‘08 boys team has made history by capturing their first MLS NEXT Cup title with a commanding 3-0 victory over Real Colorado on Sunday, June 23rd, leading the club to their Ninth National Title. The championship game, held in Nashville, Tennessee, was the culmination of an extraordinary tournament run that saw FC DELCO triumph over MLS professional academies FC Dallas and Philadelphia Union.

The championship win was powered by goals from Remy Tshibangu, Seamus Lannon, and Michael Capretto, with Capretto leading the tournament in goals and being named the Most Valuable Player (MVP). His exceptional performance, highlighted by scoring eight goals throughout the five matches, secured him the MLS NEXT Cup Top Scorer award. 

Asking Capretto how he felt about winning the Championship he said, “Winning a national Championship truly is a dream come true. This team worked so hard during every practice and every game all year long and it finally paid off.”

In addition, Grant Kiefner, FC DELCO’s standout goalkeeper, received the MLS NEXT Cup Best Goalkeeper award presented by Allstate, recognizing his pivotal role in the team’s defensive strength.

FC DELCO’s head coach, Alex Graver, expressed immense pride in his team’s performance and the dedication they displayed throughout the tournament saying, 

“I’m extremely proud of the boys. Getting to this point has been an aspiration since August. Every night we talked about being the hardest working team in the country. At DELCO, we pride ourselves on competing, which is what we try to do anytime we step on the field for training or a game. This mentality comes directly from Jeff Zaun and Rob Elliott. Without their leadership, none of this would be possible. It’s truly been a privilege to be a part of FC DELCO and have the opportunity to work with this group of boys and staff, and be a part of this amazing accomplishment.” 

The historic victory not only marks a significant milestone for FC DELCO but also highlights the talent and potential within the club’s youth program. As the team celebrates its well-earned success, it also sets a high standard for future achievements and continues to inspire young athletes across the region.

The run through the tournament saw FC DELCO defeat FC DALLAS (2-1), Queen City Mutiny (4-2), Baltimore Armour (2-1), Philadelphia Union (4-1), and Real Colorado (3-0), leading them to their MLS NEXT Cup Victory and the Ninth National Title in Club History.
